Find me on:

For October 2023, we at Distil are proud to be taking part in the One Foot Forward initiative. We walk in solidarity with those who have experienced mental health challenges. Our mission is to walk 850km to raise $1000 as every $65 donated will help train community presenters to reach 179 school students to talk about mental health and how to get support.

Distil’s participation in this challenge represents our commitment to creating a future where mental health is a right, not a privilege. Let’s take One Foot Forward together, and stride towards a mentally healthier Australia.

Each October, the Black Dog Insitute launches the One Foot Forward challenge, an initiative designed to promote the need for mental health support and raise funds that can reach individuals who might not actively seek help. This challenge is more than just walking; it’s a stride towards change.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians, approximately 5 million people, will experience symptoms of mental illness each year? What’s more alarming is that 60% of these individuals won’t seek help. Confronted with these statistics, the Black Dog Institute's aim is to pursue a world where mental well-being is attainable for all.

The Black Dog Institute is unique in its approach as it is the sole medical research institute in Australia, dedicated to investigating mental health over a life span. Their holistic visions see the entire spectrum of mental wellness, from early interventions to ongoing support. The Institute seeks to bridge the gap between research, expert knowledge and the invaluable voices of those who have experienced mental illness to deliver practical solutions that work.
